COMMITTEE NEWS
Because of the changes to the handicapping system on the 21st September, 2011, the Match Committee reverted back to the previous grading system of A Grade 0-28; B Grade 29 to 35 and C Grade 36 to 45. On the 26th October, 2012, Golf Australia issued a Q&A on the DSR, Slope and the new GA Handicap System. This is very informative and should be read by all golfers - A summary of all components is available on the GA website -www.golfaustralia.org.au (go to "Rules & Handicapping" then "Handicapping & Course Rating", then "New GA Handicap System". Golf Australia estimate that the new GA Handicap System will become fully operational during the latter part of 2013.
With Royal Melbourne as Lessee for the second term the course and facilities have been very well managed even though for some weeks the fairways were wetter than normal. We thank all of the assistance the boys in the Pro Shop have given us this year - in particular, being able to simultaneously tee of on both the 1st and 10th tees has made our life much easier and has meant that presentations can be finalised at a reasonable hour. Thanks also Joan, for organising our tee times at 8.00 a.m. in the cold winter months.
We welcomed 9 new Members this year, but for various reasons, we are sadly saying goodbye to 21. The Club has received some wonderful letters from the girls resigning - we do not like receiving these letters, but also understand that it is just as difficult for the girls writing them. Sandringham is just such a special Club.
Once again it was another successful year and we raised a total of $5,332.00 which was distributed to our nominated charities.
Unfortunately because of the weather conditions, the Club Championships and the Knockout Championships did not reach their full potential with many players pulling out and with only 10 being eligible to compete in the Knockout Event.
Woodlands Invitational October 2012 - Meryl Taylor, Women's President Woodlands Golf Club, kindly invited our club to a morning of golf. Sixteen of us played a 4BBB event, each team comprising a Woodlands member and Sandringham member. The weather was great and the Woodlands hospitality superb. The day provided another opportunity to play a different and, in this case, an excellent course for our members. Thanks to Meryl and her team.
Amalgamation of the Victorian Womens Golf League and the Victorian Golf League (men) to form the new Victorian Golf League.
At the Special Meeting held in February, 2012 the VWGL was dissolved and the new governing body "Victorian Golf League" commenced on 01.03.2012. The Womens' Pennant and the Womens' Events will be the responsibility of the Womens' Golf Committee, headed by Judith Hardy.
